Reflections on Kangaroo Roadkill in South Australia

Our recent road trip through South Australia was both an enlightening and reflective experience, particularly when considering the diverse wildlife that inhabits this region. One aspect of our drive that left a lasting impression was witnessing the frequency of kangaroo roadkill. It prompted us to think deeply about the impact of human infrastructure on Australia’s native wildlife.

The Wildlife of South Australia

South Australia is home to a remarkable range of wildlife. From the rugged coastlines to the arid outback, the diversity of habitats in this state supports a wide variety of species. Notable among them are:

Kangaroo Roadkill: An Eye-Opening Encounter

During our drive, the sheer number of kangaroo roadkill was startling. According to research, approximately 1.5 million kangaroos are killed by vehicles in Australia each year. The reasons for this tragic statistic include:
