Journey on Delta Flight: LAX to Sydney Experience

Last night, we embarked on a long journey from Los Angeles to Sydney aboard Delta flight DL41. Our trip began smoothly as we departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at precisely 10:30 PM. We were airborne by 11:00 PM. Flying directly to our home in Sydney was not only a significant distance but also required optimum preparedness, especially with a toddler in tow.

In-Flight Experience on Delta Flight DL41

The flight duration was approximately 16 hours—a rather long haul. Here is a breakdown of our in-flight journey:

  1. Departure: 10:30 PM from LAX.
  2. Airborne: Within 30 minutes after departure.
  3. Arrival: Anticipated arrival in Sydney Airport the following day.

During the flight, we were served dinner, which was pretty average by airline standards. It sufficed to keep hunger at bay, but was nothing to rave about. Our toddler, who has now surpassed the age of two, required his own seat. It was a relief as he was able to sleep sideways with his head and feet nestled comfortably between us. This arrangement allowed us to get some shut-eye as well, albeit sporadically.

Arrival and Reunion

The thought of being greeted by my parents at Sydney International Airport was the saving grace of our journey. They were eagerly waiting for us and couldn’t contain their excitement about our return. The anticipation of a warm reunion kept us going through the otherwise grueling journey.

Tips for Flying with a Toddler

For families planning a similar travel experience, here are a few pointers that we found helpful:

  • Opt for direct flights to minimize transit time.
  • Ensure snacks and entertainment devices are easily accessible.
  • Use flight time to establish a flexible sleep schedule for your toddler.

Flying from LAX to Sydney is a significant commitment, but with the right preparation, it can be a manageable and even enjoyable experience.
