Our roadtrip across Australia took us along the edge of the Great Australian Bight. Head of Bight
Our first stop was the Head of Bight, renowned for its spectacular panoramic views and prime whale-watching opportunities. Located approximately 78 kilometers west of Yalata, this lookout offers access to a series of boardwalks and viewing platforms that overlook the towering cliffs and azure waters below.
- Whale Watching: From May to October, we were lucky enough to witness Southern Right Whales migrating along the coast.

Bunda Cliffs Lookout
Next, we made our way to the Bunda Cliffs Lookout, famous for its sheer cliffs that stretch for over 100 kilometers. These cliffs rise up to 120 meters above sea level, creating a dramatic backdrop for photos.
- Accessible Rest Stops: Several rest areas along the Eyre Highway offered us easy access to the lookout points.

Our journey continued to the Nullarbor National Park, where we explored the park’s lookouts, providing unparalleled views of both the Bunda Cliffs and the sprawling plains of the Nullarbor.
- Cave Exploration: We discovered that the park is home to several intriguing sinkholes and caves.
- Walking Trails: Short walks near the lookouts allowed us to immerse ourselves in the unique landscape.

Great Australian Bight Marine Park
Finally, we visited the Great Australian Bight Marine Park, which is not only a scenic wonder but also a sanctuary for a variety of marine life. This park is important for the conservation of species like the Australian Sea Lion.
- Marine Life Viewing: With a pair of binoculars, we enjoyed spotting dolphins and sea lions.
- Picnic Areas: Perfectly positioned picnic spots allowed us a break while taking in the view.
