What to Expect on the Road
The trip leads through the heart of the goldfields region, presenting a mix of history and the natural environment. During our drive, certain aspects stood out:
- Road Conditions: After significant rain, expect wet patches and potential potholes that may not be immediately visible. The road is mostly a single carriageway; thus, overtaking and narrow sections are common and require careful navigation.
- Scenery: The verdant landscape after the rain provided a stunning backdrop. The usual arid terrain was temporarily transformed into lush greens and vibrant wildflowers.
- Wildlife: Watch for kangaroos and other wildlife, especially around dawn and dusk.
Preparation Tips
Before hitting the road, we recommend the following steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey:
- Vehicle Check: Ensure tires are in good condition and lights and wipers are functioning properly.
- Emergency Kit: Carry a well-stocked emergency kit. Include snacks, water, a first-aid kit, and a spare tire.
- Weather Updates: Check local weather forecasts. Unpredictable weather can drastically change road conditions.
- Fuel: Fuel up before you leave Norseman as the stretches can be quite remote with limited fueling options.
