Author: Matty (Freelance Engineer)

Hi, I'm Matty — an engineer who found extraordinary ways to create freedom for adventure by embracing financial independence, digital nomadism, and self-sovereignty 🇦🇺 🇬🇧 🇲🇹 After university, I spent nearly a decade working in engineering and middle-management roles at the local power utility in Perth, Australia. Frequent travel brought new experiences, and in 2010, I met my future wife. By 2016, I seized the opportunity of a severance package and moved to the U.S. on a work sponsored visa, where I began to ask the critical question: "How much is enough?" In 2019, at 36, I stepped away from corporate life to focus on freelance consulting. We backpacked through Central and South America before returning to Perth, where the pandemic shifted our perspective even further. During that time, we welcomed our beagle puppy, Sniffy, and celebrated the arrival of our son. We also embraced new ways of thinking, questioning the status quo, and redefining our goals. By 2022, we embarked on a new adventure, leaving Australia behind. Starting in the UK, we explored Europe, and then drove an RV across the U.S. and Canada. Today, I’m focused on creating freedom for adventure through freelance consulting, self-sovereignty, geoarbitrage, and leveraging the latest technologies including Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Join me as I share the lessons I’ve learned, insights from our travels, and strategies for optimizing a life filled with purpose and exploration.
