Living in Perth means we’re lucky to have so many beautiful nature spots right on our doorstep, and one of our recent family adventures took us to Lesmurdie Falls Lower. With our energetic beagle leading the way and our curious toddler eager to explore, it turned out to be the perfect morning outdoors.

Located in the Perth Hills, Lesmurdie Falls is one of Western Australia’s most popular waterfalls. While the upper lookout often gets the spotlight, the lower section offers a peaceful experience with plenty to keep little legs and wagging tails entertained.
The walk to the lower falls is relatively easy, making it suitable for families with young children who enjoy walking and exploring, however not Pram friendly. Our toddler loved spotting different rocks, listening to the sounds of birds in the bushland, and searching for tiny insects along the trail. Every few metres there seemed to be something new to discover.
Our beagle was equally excited. The variety of scents along the path kept her nose busy the entire walk, and she thoroughly enjoyed being part of the adventure. As always, we kept him on lead and made sure to bring plenty of water, especially as the Perth Hills can warm up quickly even on cooler days.
The highlight was reaching the falls themselves. After recent rain, water cascaded over the rocky escarpment, creating a beautiful backdrop for family photos and a chance to simply pause and enjoy nature. The sound of flowing water and the surrounding bushland made it feel like a hidden escape, despite being only a short drive from the city.

What we loved most about Lesmurdie Falls Lower was how accessible it felt for a family outing. It offered just enough adventure for our toddler, plenty of excitement for our beagle, and stunning scenery for the adults.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly outdoor adventure in the Perth Hills, Lesmurdie Falls Lower is well worth a visit. Pack some snacks, bring water for both kids and dogs, and take your time enjoying one of Perth’s most beautiful natural attractions.
