On a recent trip through South Australia, we decided to take a detour to explore Snowtown, a small town that offers some unexpected attractions. Known primarily for its “Silo Art”, unique “Toilets”, and the “World’s Largest Wind Turbine Blade”, Snowtown offers a blend of history, art, and renewable energy innovation that beckoned us to visit.
The Vibrant Silo Art
Our first stop was the Snowtown Silos, an iconic landmark in the region. The silos feature stunning artwork that tells the story of the local community and its heritage. The vibrant colors and striking imagery capture the essence of Snowtown’s agricultural history and the surrounding landscape. Created by artist Joel Fergie, the artworks are not only a testament to rural life but also a celebration of the town’s spirit.

These silos have become a popular attraction for both locals and tourists, enhancing Snowtown’s identity on the Australian Silo Art Trail (Australian Silo Art Trail).
Quirky Public Toilets
One might not expect public toilets to be on a list of attractions, but Snowtown’s toilets are noted for their unique signage and artistic flair. While exploring the town, we discovered that these small bits of creativity contribute to Snowtown’s charm and sense of community.
- Location: Main Street, Snowtown
- Artistic Elements: Creative signage and murals
The World’s Largest Wind Turbine Blade
Just outside of Snowtown, we encountered the world’s largest wind turbine blade—a testament to innovation in renewable energy. This enormous blade, measuring 80 meters long, is a striking feature of the landscape and offers insight into the significant role renewable energy plays in the region.
- Length: 80 meters
- Material: Fiberglass and resin
- Location: Snowtown Wind Farm (Google Maps)
The Snowtown Wind Farm is one of Australia’s largest renewable energy projects, a critical step toward sustainable energy goals. It was quite impressive to see a piece of technology so large and significant up close!
Snowtown may be small, but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to distinctive attractions. From stunning silo art and quirky toilets to leading-edge renewable energy projects, Snowtown provided us with a rich tapestry of experiences. We encourage anyone traveling through South Australia to take the time to explore what Snowtown has to offer.
